Calista Corporation PAEC endorses Mary Peltola for Congress

Calista Public Advocacy and Engagement Committee Seeks Allies to Support Y-K Region.

Calista (cha-LIS-tah) Corporation’s Public Advocacy and Engagement Committee (PAEC) has endorsed U.S. Rep. Mary Peltola for reelection to a second term in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Peltola is a Calista Shareholder who was raised in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Region. She is the first Alaska Native person elected to serve in Congress. In 2022, she won the special election and subsequent general election for Alaska’s sole seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

“We are proud to support Mary in her bid for a second term in Congress. She understands our Region’s needs, and she is a champion for the subsistence way of life and protecting western Alaska salmon runs,” said PAEC Chair Willie Kasayulie.

The PAEC was founded in 2017 and it is currently made up of three Calista Board of Directors members, two staff members and two at-large Shareholder community members.

The PAEC regional priorities for federal candidates include:

• Continued low salmon runs and continued closure of subsistence and commercial fisheries for king and chum salmon

• Lack of infrastructure in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Region including vital housing, water and sewer, broadband, energy and transportation

• Ice road construction and maintenance

• Housing and funding for law enforcement officials in rural areas

• Yukon-Kuskokwim Regional Tribal Government

• Sustainable resource development in the region
