Bethel Lady Warriors wrestling team takes runners-up spot at Bethel Invitational

The Bethel Lady Warriors wrestlers placed second at last weekend’s Bethel Wrestling Invitational tournament held at the WarriorDome. Lady Warrior Isabel Lieb was named the Outstanding Wrestler at the event.

Winning gold medals for the Warriors included Lieb (138 lbs.), Emilie Madson (100 lbs.), and Zellia Avalos (152 lbs.). Constance Albert (100 lbs.) and Payton Boney (145 lbs.) both won silver medals for the Lady Warriors. Coming in third for bronze medals were Sydney Lincoln (107 lbs.) and Hannah Howell (126 lbs.).

Bethel’s Briella Herron finished in 4th place in the 132 lbs. bracket.

Kwethluk’s Kelsey Charlie won first place in the girls 235 lbs. division. She defeated Thalia Martinez of Lathrop. Allison Coffey of South Anchorage placed third. Coming in fourth was Audrae Charlie of Akiachak.

Hayden Jacob of Napaskiak placed third in the 100 lbs. weight class.

Christalyn Smart-Alvarado of Hooper Bay took second in the 114 lbs. bracket. Vallerie Rivers of Scammon Bay took third and coming in fourth was Chayland Pleasant of Quinhagak.

Scammon Bay’s Alexia Kaganak placed second in the 120 lbs. weight class. Jillian Afcan of Nunam Iqua took home the bronze medal.

Marina Westdahl of St. Mary’s placed second in the 126 lbs. bracket. Megan Nick of Nunapitchuk placed 4th. Mtn. Village’s Elisa Alexie finished in 5th place.

Napaskiak Lady Hawk Hilary Larson placed 4th in the 138 lbs. weight division.

In the 145 lbs. weight class Sandra Tunutmoak of Scammon Bay took home the bronze medal. Finishing in 4th place was Layla Charlie of Kwethluk.

152 lbs. weight class silver medalist was Alexandra Tunutmoak of Scammon Bay. Also of Scammon Bay was Dory Cholok who won second in the 165 lbs. bracket. St. Mary’s wrestler Aaliyah Stevens took third.
