Bethel Lady Warriors compete at 3A State Basketball Tournament

The Bethel Lady Warriors and the Bethel Cheer Team stand for the National Anthem at their first game last weekend.

The Bethel Lady Warriors made it to the State 3A Tournament by claiming one of the berths for the Western Conference. They competed at the state level last week March 22 – 23, 2023 in Anchorage.

Their first game was with the #1 seed, the Grace Christian Lady Archangels in the quarterfinals. They fought valiantly but lost, 56-27. Bethel Lady Warriors Briella Herron and Allie Alexie both scored in the double-digits, 13 and 10. Herron was named the Player of the Game.

Their next game was with the Sitka Lady Wolves who had lost to the Barrow Lady Whalers. The consolation bracket game was also a tough game, the Lady Warriors lost 54-29. Briella Herron scored 11 points. Kyana Harpak sunk 6 and was awarded the Player of the Game.

The Mount Edgecumbe Lady Braves made it all the way to the final championship game with Grace Christian. Bethel player representing MEHS Carliese O’Brien scored 11. Her teammate Tessa Anderson also had 11. Toksook Bay’s Cadence Dull sunk 9.

Grace Christian won 49-38 for the 3A state championship.

On the boys side, Grace Christian defeated the Nome Nanooks 64-33 to win the championship. Mount Edgecumbe Braves boys finished in 5th.
