Bethel Fire Department Calls for week ending October 27

• Personnel attended the 2023 Alaska Fire Conference in Valdez from September 25-29. The 40 hours of instruction covered topics such as fire officer leadership, fire service instruction, confined space rescue, and stress management.

• Between 09/01/2023 and 09/30/2023, the Bethel Fire Department responded to 125 EMS and 12 Fire incidents.

• The department is operating within its FY2024 budget.

• The department will continue to seek grant funding for fire and EMS equipment, additional staffing, replacement fire apparatus and ambulances, and other equipment.

• The fire station foundation will be repaired and improved to allow for increased ventilation to preserve the position of the foundation piles.

• The fire station’s front office and classroom need to be updated and remodeled, as the original (circa 1980) cabinets, shelving, and counter tops are very worn and in poor condition. The department will explore options and possibly create an RFP for this project.

• The department will seek an RFP for chain-link fencing to surround the department’s new firefighter skills training facility, which will be constructed in October at 1215 Ridgecrest Drive.
