The Bethel Lady Warriors finished at the 2021 Girls Wrestling State Championships as one of the top girls wrestling squads in the state, finishing fourth for the third year in a row. The state finals took place last weekend in Anchorage at the Alaska Airlines Center. Division I and II girls wrestled in the same brackets.
Top finisher for the Bethel Lady Warriors was Fiona Phelan (130). She placed third. Isabel Lieb placed 4th overall in the 145 lb. weight class. Payton Boney (135) placed 5th. Their teammates Emilie Madson (103) and Cadence Cedars (112) both took sixth in their weight divisions. Also wrestling for the Bethel Lady Warriors was Briella Herron (125) and Jordan Klejka (119).
Chevak’s Michelle Atcherian (112) placed 5th.
Aileen Lester of Newhalen was the top finisher at state from rural Alaska. She took home the gold medal in the 130 weight class.
Also competing at state were Isis Canoe (189) of Nunam Iqua representing Mt. Edgecumbe High School, Jacelyn Chikigak (160) of Alakanuk, Angelina Chiklak (103) of Chevak, Kilee Fratis (119) of Emmonak, Emma Friendly (103) and Chandra Stone (189) of Tuntutuliak; Hilary Larson (135) of Napaskiak, Flora Nanuk (119), Liliauna Simon (125), Kaylee Simon (145), April Uttereyuk (130), and Seeya Rivers (235) of Scammon Bay; Trinity Pitka (160) of Mt. Edgecumbe, Chayland Pleasant (112) of Quinhagak, and Tawny Redfox (235) of Emmonak.
Taking first place were the Lathrop Malemutes of Fairbanks. In second was Colony High School. Finishing third were the North Pole Patriots.
