Evalyn J. Miller June 10, 1939 – Aug. 5, 2011
Harry Faulkner Jr. visits with his mom Evalyn Miller.
Evalyn J. (Harvey) Miller was born in Mt. Lewiston, Montana to Ethel McLaughlin and Richard Harvey on June 10, 1939. One day after her eighteenth birthday, on June 11, 1957, she married Harry Faulkner Sr. in Livingston, Montana. The newlyweds were brave and spirited during this time and made their way to the last frontier, seeking work.
In 1960 the couple arrived in Bethel where Harry worked as a pilot and electrician. The family steadily grew with the birth of three children, Tammy, Lynn and Harry Jr. Life was busy in Bethel, raising young children, attending to family businesses, driving taxi-cabs and maintaining a home without modern conveniences. Evalyn worked at this rural living until 1966. Thereafter, she returned to more familiar surroundings and moved back to warmer climate in the lower 48.
Evalyn settled in the West and married Jerry Miller in 1979. The couple lived in California and Idaho. Evalyn had very fond memories of her life in Idaho. After her divorce from Jerry Miller, she moved to Arizona to be with her dad and brother. Evalyn worked as a waitress for many years at the Riverside Casino in Laughlin, NV. Her positive attitude and quick witted demeanor was compatible with Evalyn’s work in the food service industry. After retirement she enjoyed spending time gardening and painting. Evalyn was known for having a green thumb and was proud of her lemon, lime and grapefruit trees. She also kept active with golfing, swimming and staying connected to family and friends through her computer. Evalyn looked forward to emails from her “daughter from another mother”, Jeannine. She enjoyed Jeannine’s stories of smoke-jumping and exciting travels. Evalyn also loved getting humorous emails she could forward to her cyberspace friends. She cherished time spent with her children and grandchildren. Her family knew they were loved and although they lived many miles apart, the family bond was always close and sincere.
In July of 1982, Evalyn was joyfully reunited with her son, Harry Jr. This was a special highlight in her life and since then, sharing that last twenty-nine years together has been a blessing. Evalyn was a hoot and her sense of humor and quick wit will be missed! Evalyn enjoyed the many blessings life offered and she maintained a positive outlook that everyone around her admired.
Sadly, Evalyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer on July 25, 2011 and she passed away on August 5, 2011. Although this short notice was hard to comprehend, it allowed family and friends to say farewell. With or without notice, the loss we bear is forever difficult to endure.
Evalyn is survived by her loyal companion, Tinna Marie (her dog); her daughters, Tammy and Lynn; son, Harry Jr and daughter-in-law Fern. She is survived by her grandchildren, Amanda, Sandra, Michael, Myra and Tracy and three great grandchildren with another on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents Ethel and Richard, brother, Jerry Harvey and ex-husband, Harry Faulkner Sr.
Honoring her wishes to decline a funeral, her remains will be dispersed in the Kuskokwim River, at a beach in Hawaii, and Lake Coeur d’Alene in Idaho.
Mother, you will be missed.
