A Chevak man was arrested on drug and alcohol charges last week, according to a report from the Alaska State Troopers. On 7/26/2011 at approximately 3:45pm, Bethel WAANT contacted a resident of Chevak, Alaska as he waited for his flight to Chevak at a local air carrier in Bethel. Incident to the contact, 1-750ML bottle of alcohol and approximately 6 ounces of marijuana were found and seized from his checked luggage. Bethel WAANT investigation continues and a case report charging him with Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance in the Fourth Degree and Alcohol Importation will be forwarded to the Bethel District Attorney’s Office for review. Chevak is a local option community having voted to ban the sale, importation and possession of alcohol.
In another incident, Bethel WAANT located a suspicious postal parcel at one of the local air carriers on 7/22/11. Investigation revealed person(s) unknown mailed various sized bottles of alcohol to a Scammon Bay resident. Investigation continues.
